What Is Reflexology?

Reflexology

Reflexology is a unique and relaxing foot massage, working on pressure points in the feet that correspond to areas in the body. It has beneficial effect on health, mentally and physically.

Although Reflexology is not used to diagnose or cure health disorders, millions of people around the world use it to complement other treatments when addressing conditions like anxiety, asthma, cancer treatment, cardiovascular issues, diabetes, headaches, kidney function, PMS, and sinusitis. It can also be helpful in raising awareness of areas which can be improved by simple lifestyle changes.

The Reflexologist attempts to release congestion or stress in the nervous system and balance the body’s energy.

How Does It Work?

Reflexology is the application of appropriate pressure to specific points and areas on the feet, hands, or ears. These areas and reflex points correspond to different body organs and systems, and that pressing them has a beneficial effect on the organs and person’s general health. For example, reflexology holds that a specific spot in the arch of the foot corresponds to the bladder point. When a reflexology practitioner uses thumbs or fingers to apply appropriate pressure to this area, it affects bladder functioning.

In reflexology theory, points and areas on the feet, hands, and ears correspond to specific organs, bones and body systems. Practitioners access these points on the feet and hands (bottom, sides, and top) and the ear to affect organs and systems throughout the entire body.

Benefits Of Reflexology

  • Normalise the circulation of blood and lymph
  • Increase the supply of oxygen and nutrients to tissues
  • Increase removal of waste from tissues
  • Balance activity of organs and glands
  • Promote deep relaxation
  • Raise awareness within an individual of areas to focus on to improve general and specific well-being

Who Can Benefit From Reflexology?

Reflexology can be beneficial to anyone, it will not address a muscular strain from a sports injury like a massage can but it more suited to helping the internal balance and function of the organs and body as a whole.

Reflexology can be part of a healthy lifestyle, it can raise awareness of issues which the individual may not have been aware of, which can easily be improved by simple lifestyle changes, ie. a Reflexologist will be able to determine if an individual is de-hydrated, the individual can then address this accordingly.

Reflexology is a great way of helping the body’s natural balance & flow whilst addressing specific areas. Regular treatments will continue to improve general and specific health and will give the individual a regular insight into their well-being.
